10 Million Grill Brushes Recalled Over Loose Metal Bristles
More than 10 million metal wire‑bristle grill brushes sold at Home Depot are being voluntarily recalled after reports that loose bristles can end up in food and cause injuries, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
The recall covers six Nexgrill brush models sold nationwide between 2015 and 2026, priced from $5 to $15, according to the CPSC. The agency said metal bristles can break off, stick to grill grates and be swallowed, potentially lodging in the throat or digestive tract and causing internal injuries.
Nexgrill is aware of at least 68 reports of bristles detaching, including five cases that required medical treatment, the CPSC said.
“Our company remains committed to providing the highest quality and safety standards so that our customers can confidently use our cleaning tools for the BBQ grills that serve as the cornerstone of family meals and celebrations,” Nexgrill said in a statement to USA TODAY.
Consumers should stop using the recalled brushes immediately and contact Nexgrill for a full refund issued as a gift card, the agency said. Nexgrill will also provide instructions on how to dispose of the brushes.
