For Aknvas Fall 2026, Creative Director Christian Juul Nielsen broke his collection into three chapters, all inspired by the 1844 fairytale “The Snow Queen” by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen.”Chapter One is called ‘Ice Palace,’ which is all these sculptural shapes,” Nielsen explained to Fashionista backstage after his Saturday afternoon show. (Watch the video interview below.) “The hips are very structured. Everything is ice, everything is holding and you have these sort of ice ballerina [dresses] within the show that are wired up to stand out.”Peplum corset tops and mini dresses made from rich blue and dark gray denim rounded out the first part of the runway, expanding on the “huge success” denim has had with the brand’s customers, said Nielsen.

For the second chapter, “The Traveller,” the designer shifted much of his attention to accessories, creating handbags that hold Okapa water bottles (a sponsor of the show). Bright turquoise quilted purses and dramatic headwear accompanied lots of fur pieces, including floor-length outerwear, scarves and circle skirts.”Our faux fur is actually one of our most successful parts of the brand,” said the designer. “We develop them from scratch. When I did couture in Paris, I used to do a lot of real fur, and we are now imitating that. I was particularly inspired by skunks for this collection. I think they’re so beautiful. I don’t even understand how an animal can grow such different hairs so suddenly.”In the third and final chapter of the runway presentation, Nielsen dives into more formal eveningwear, focusing on voluminous ballgowns representative of teardrops. “In the story, the girl comes to the boy and she cries out of frustration because she thinks he’s frozen,” he said. “Eventually, she cries into his eyes [and heals the poison in him]. Her tears change to ones of joy and happiness and that’s what I’m trying to illustrate in the last section — that teardrops are never the same.”Ahead, see every look from Aknvas’ Fall 2026 collection.
