Prabal Gurung Searches for 'Sanctuary in Uncertainty' for Fall 2026

There’s no place like home, but for Fall 2026, Prabal Gurung asks: “Where is home now?” Rather than leaning into nostalgia during uncertain times, the designer is looking back at his Nepali roots through a lens of resilience, he told Fashionista ahead of his Saturday show.”When the primary color no longer holds optimism, I was looking into deepening the colors and really finding beauty in the darkness, because that’s what we have to do right now,” the designer said. “The collection is celebration of that. It’s about resilience of women back home in Nepal and here. It’s about all of us coming together.”The collection opens with a series of looks for which Gurung reimagined his former Catholic schoolboy uniform, creating sharply tailored suits complete with high collars, sleek contours and peekaboo lace cuffs. Next, in homage to the women he grew up with, Gurung said, he translated the demure movement of their saris into flowing satin shawls. Catholic and Hindu references coexist throughout the lineup, like in the case of a quilted black duffle coat inspired by a nun’s habit, followed by a shaman’s ritual dress.

Though he once found stability in primary colors, Gurung said he intentionally deepened this collection’s color palette to explore the beauty of charcoals, sapphires and ambers. However, moments of visual levity persist: The collection does incorporate blush pinks, fresh mints and stark whites.The Fall 2026 offering also represents the work of a variety of global artisans, Gurung emphasized. The garments utilize lace from France, wool from Italy, textiles from Japan, embroidery from India and knits from Nepal — all stitched together in New York City “by immigrant hands who crossed oceans believing in the possibility,” per the designer.
