Watch the full conversation between Alexis Androulakis and Dr. Christina Basias Androulakis (a.k.a. The Lipstick Lesbians) and Fashionista Staff Writer Catie Pusateri on The Fashionista Network. If you’ve ever scrolled through #BeautyTok, you’ve likely heard of The Lipstick Lesbians. With a legion of more than 1.2 million TikTok followers, Alexis Androulakis and Dr. Christina Basias Androulakis have built a powerhouse platform dedicated to spreading beauty education. Back in 2019, the duo launched a capsule collection of lipsticks and officially knighted themselves “The Lipstick Lesbians;” a video of Alexis reviewing products in Sephora went viral soon after. Now, Alexis and Christina are returning to beauty entrepreneurship with Leaked Labs, a new platform releasing products (or “leaks,” as the duo calls them) in their lab sample condition, allowing consumers to interact with new innovations that are still in their beta phase. The reason? Many exciting beauty formulations sit in various product development stages and may not see the light of day for one to two years. By the time a new product finally hits shelves (if at all), the beauty industry has already evolved.Leaked Labs aims to cut excess lead time by giving consumers the opportunity to purchase and evaluate these innovations (which are released in limited quantities) pre-launch; their feedback could lead to a refined formula or even a total rework. Its first leak is Amplify Flexi Powder, a water-activated, pan-free powder made from a dehydrated emulsion.”I don’t think that this idea for Leaked Labs could have come from someone who’s inside the industry and is a traditional beauty person,” Christina explained. “I really believe that Leaked Labs had to be born from someone who sees it with fresh eyes and could identify a white space. I think that’s what we did.”On The Fashionista Network, the duo discussed the new project, as well as which beauty brands are exciting them right now, their advice for emerging entrepreneurs and more.
