This is not a comprehensive list of all the shavers we’ve considered. It includes only models we’ve tested that are still available.The Braun 7127cs was a pick in a previous guide and remains an excellent razor that provides a decent shave. However, compared with the results from our top pick, the Braun 8577cc, this model’s shave was noticeably less close and smooth. The models at the lower end of Braun’s foil shaving line, such as those in Series 5 and Series 6, turned out fine in our testing, but none outperformed our budget pick, the Remington F5-5800. Braun also has a newly designed Series 7 shaver that we’re testing now; we’ll update this guide with our findings.The Bevel Electric Shaver is geared toward people who have short, wiry facial hair and are prone to razor bumps. Because that irritation arises from closely cut hairs curving back into the skin as they grow, the Bevel shaver’s blades are set farther back (0.3 mm) than is typical, for a shave that’s not quite as close as what you can get from a traditional setup. But our testers found that it didn’t work well or cut closely enough with hair that was longer than stubble.The Panasonic ARC6 has four foils and two titanium-coated long-and-tricky-hair-capturing trimmers, plus beard-sensing technology. Despite all of that tech, it failed to cut closer than the Braun models, and its chunky, square head and elevated price were turnoffs.The Panasonic ARC5 ES-PV3A-K fits in the palm of your hand — it’s shaped a little like a portly hockey puck — and includes standard USB charging, no power brick required. It’s the most portable and most easy-to-use razor in its class that we’ve tested. Those features come at a price, however: This model costs considerably more than the entry-level ARC5, which has the same head. And neither Panasonic model shaved as quickly or closely as our top pick from Braun. However, if your priority is packing light, you can certainly get a fine shave with the ARC5 ES-PV3A-K. It just takes more — and more careful — strokes.The Philips Norelco OneBlade 360 Face is a razor-blade-handled device that claims to “trim, edge, and shave any length of hair effortlessly.” Our beard trimmer testers found that it was great for fine-detail work on beards, goatees, and mustaches, but the shave wasn’t close enough for it to qualify for this guide; our testers still had pronounced stubble after using it.The SweetLF SWS7105 is a lightweight rotary razor that piqued our curiosity because it was a top-ranked best seller on Amazon at the time of our research. If you love a rotary shaver and are happy to save $20 in exchange for a cheaper build, give this model a look. Our testers found it to be the “quietest” model, but its grip felt “cheap and slippery.”The Wahl 5-Star Shaver/Shaper is a professional model marketed primarily toward barbers who want “bump-free shaving.” It’s comparable to the Andis ProFoil 17150, but it fell short in dealing with flat-lying hairs on the neck.James Austin contributed reporting.
