Designers Share Their Favorite New York Fashion Week Memories

This season of New York Fashion Week marks 83 years since the industry affair was founded (originally called “Press Week” in 1943) and 33 years since the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) consolidated the citywide shows into a singular, formal, week-long event. Though no one who presented collections for Fall 2026 has been participating from the start (that’d be a lot of designing), plenty of them are still NYFW veterans with many fond memories to recount.”I started in 2008, and I always talk about how that first show…was so wonderful,” Joseph Altuzarra, founder and creative director of his eponymous label, told Fashionista backstage at his recent show. “It was the most lo-fi thing…but it was magical.”Sergio Hudson, Prabal Gurung, Kate Barton and Patricia Bonaldi (of PatBo) also look back on their debuts as their most memorable NYFW moments. “I remember the feeling I had that day because it was a milestone for me and my career, being a Latin woman in the [United States], building a business here,” said Bonaldi. Others, like Christian Siriano, favor more recent happenings: “I will say, last season, Oprah [Winfrey] screaming down my runway was pretty magical.”Below, watch as the designers of Fall 2026 share their favorite memories of NYFW.
