Even the Bach Mai Woman Needs an Everyday Wardrobe

Bach Mai is for women who like glamour; they frequent galas, dine at the finest establishments and dare to do no such thing as “dress down.” Design-wise, that’s translated into season after season of vibrant demi-couture gowns with impeccable craftsmanship. (I’d expect nothing less from Mai who studied at the Institut Francais de la Mode and worked under John Galliano at Maison Margiela.)For Fall 2026, the designer took an unexpected pivot. Instead of another collection filled with dramatic, high-glamour pieces, he opted for simplicity. “With everything going on in the industry, I wanted to focus on the foundation,” he told Fashionista after the show. A color palette of black, dark purple and wine red informed the lineup. He kept the silhouettes easy and streamlined: floor-grazing slip skirts, high-low blouses and various little black dresses. But where the shapes were effortless, the techniques were anything but. Take, for example, look 20, spotlighting a hand-knitted cashmere sweater, or look 21, the maxi dress made entirely from hand-placed fringe.
