8.2 Million Thermos Containers Recalled. See Affected Products
Thermos issued a recall for roughly 8.2 million food jars and beverage bottles sold nationwide after more than two dozen people reported laceration injuries or permanent vision loss.
According to a notice April 30 on the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website, Thermos is recalling about 5.8 million Stainless King Food Jars and about 2.3 million Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles.
“If perishable food or beverages are stored in the container for an extended period of time, the stopper can forcefully eject when opened, which can result in serious impact injury and laceration hazards to the consumer,” the notice says.
The products were sold for $30 at Target, Walmart and other stores nationwide, as well as online at Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Target.com and Thermos.com from around March 2008 to July 2024.
How Many People Have Been Injured?
As of April 30, Thermos has received 27 reports of people requiring medical attention after the stopper struck them, with three people suffering permanent vision loss.

“For recalled 3000 and 3020 Food Jars, consumers will be asked to throw away the stopper and send a photo of the disposed stopper to Thermos,” the company said. “For recalled 3010 Bottles, consumers will be asked to return their recalled Bottle to Thermos using a prepaid shipping label.”
