Honda is recalling over 1 million cars because of a tire repair kit bottle cap that may become detached, increasing the risk of injury, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The bottle cap “can become a projectile and strike the user or others nearby,” the recall notice stated. According to the safety recall report, eight injuries have been reported as of May 28.
The bottle cap may become a projectile because of pressure building inside the sealant bottle, according to the recall. More than 1 million vehicles are affected by the recall.
Which Vehicles Are Being Recalled?
There are potentially 1,049,883 vehicles impacted in the following models, according to NHTSA:
2023 to 2026 Honda Accord Hybrid
2025 to 2026 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell EV
2023 to 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid
What to Do If You Own a Recalled Vehicle
Honda dealers will replace the tire repair kit nozzle or sealant bottle for free, according to NHTSA. Letters notifying owners of the risk will be mailed by July 27, with additional letters being sent once a remedy to the recall has been finalized.
Vehicle owners may also contact Honda’s customer support at 866-784-1870 for more information about the recall, which Honda has listed under the manufacturer number DOV.
Owners who believe their cars might be involved in the recall can also search for their vehicle identification number, aka VIN, or state and license plate number on NHTSA.gov to see whether their vehicles are included.
